Legal papers for civil weddings in Crete, Greece

For a legal Greek wedding which will also be accepted in your home country, following documents have to be presented

bullet Passport or ID copy of bride and groom

Greek translation required.

bullet Full birth certificates of both parties.

Shorter version is not accepted. This document is valid within six months before the wedding date. Greek translation and apostille stamp are required.

bullet Certificate of No Impediment to Marriage.

This document verifies that you have never been married before and that you are allowed to marry. You may find it from your local registry and must be issued three months before your wedding date. Please note that two documents must be given, one for each party. Greek translation and apostille stamp are required.

bullet Divorce certificate/Decree Absolute

in case of divorce must be obtained. Greek translation and apostille stamp are required

bullet Adoption papers/name chance or death spouses

must be obtained in any of these cases. Greek translation and apostille stamp are required.

 Please note

In order to make your dream Greek wedding come true all documents must be verified.

bullet ‘Apostille’ stamp or The “Haager Apostille”

in order these document to be legal. Without this stamp no wedding procedure can take place in Greece.

bullet Greek translation

All documents must be translated and certified in Greek Embassy / Consulate in your home country. The yes I do team obtains a translation service if needed.

bullet Time

in order to accomplish legalities all papers must be send to us by fax or courier service 6 weeks before the wedding

bullet Original documents

All original documents must be brought with you.

bullet Terminal phase

Couple must stay in Crete for at least a working day after the wedding  in order to fill and sign the legal papers in the city hall.
